Erin, what are your responsibilities as the marketing director?
My main responsibilities are creating and executing all the marketing for the Y, SKY Academy and that includes our various campaigns, programs and events. I’m also responsible for our digital, print and social media campaigns as well as other creative projects.
What are some of the current marketing priorities?
An ongoing priority is educating the community about all our activities. We have youth and adult sports, programs for seniors, summer camp, before and after school care, Pedaling for Parkinson’s, diabetes prevention programs, and many fun group fitness classes. We even have MYZONE, which is a target heart rate class where you can use wearable technology while working out to make sure you’re in the target heart rate zone.
Many people are surprised at the scope of the YMCA in terms of its reach throughout the region? Where are your current locations?
We have locations In Venice, Englewood, North Port, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Fort Myers and Bonita Springs. We also operate programs in Clewiston, Harlem, and LaBelle among other areas.
What was your previous position and some of your earlier professional experiences?
I previously worked for a small local Sarasota company and I’ve worked on a national scale for two large dental companies. I have over 7 years marketing experience and have even worked internationally for an organization in Australia. I received a Master of Communications degree from The University of Queensland as well as a Bachelor of Science degree from Bowling Green State University. Every company I’ve worked with since completing my graduate degree is involved with healthy living.
Where are you from originally and what brought you to Florida?
I’m from Cleveland and my first job after graduating from college brought me to Sarasota.
How has your experience as a competitive gymnast and diver influenced your career?
It helped to shape my work ethic. My parents also provided me a great example of the importance of hard work and dedication. I enjoy staying fit and I’m currently training for the Philadelphia Marathon.
Erin, what do you enjoy most about your current role and what are some of the challenges?
I love having an impact on so many adults and children. I also appreciate being able to be both creative and analytical in my work. Some of the challenges include not having enough time to get everything done and staying up to date with the latest marketing trends.
