Dr. Adam Agran on VAX-D Therapy – Editor’s Note: We spoke with Dr. Adam Agran with Agran Chiropractic at 1986 S. Tamiami Trail in Venice, Florida. Please call 941-408-8100; learn more at VeniceVAXD.com.
Dr. Agran, what is VAX-D Therapy and how does it help patients dealing with back pain?
VAX-D Therapy, or Vertebral Axial Decompression, has been around since 1986. It is used to treat disc issues, arthritic changes and joint issues in the lower back by creating a negative pressure center in the disc which allows the area to heal.
What’s your history using VAX-D Therapy and how long have you been a chiropractic physician?
I’ve been a Chiropractor for 18 years and first started using VAX-D therapy during an internship six months before graduating. I worked outside Philadelphia 2000 to 2004 with Dr. Joseph Cammarata who brought VAX-D to the U.S. from Canada.
Where are you originally from and what brought you to Venice?
I’m originally from Flanders, New Jersey. I came to Venice on vacation at the end of 2004 and never left. My wife Gwen and I enjoy raising our two sons here.
Please share the story about your experience with Hurricane Irma last year?
We had debris strike our roof which caused the roof to peel off like a tin can lid. Three of us spent four hours lifting the roof off the ground and placing it back into position on top of the building. We were flooded inside, and I only had a small fan. I did a posting on Facebook asking if anyone had some fans or vacuums we could borrow. Within an hour, 19 people (mostly patients) showed up to help remove the damage and vacuum water. I still can’t believe so many people responded. I will always be grateful to their kindness. We had everything fixed and our doors were reopened two weeks before Christmas.
Adam, who were a few of your mentors and how did they influence your life?
My eighth-grade science teacher, Mr. Patterson, made me fall in love with everything related to science. Dr. Joseph Cammarata is another great mentor who taught me with his example to be a caring and compassionate chiropractor.
What do you enjoy most about patient care?
I feel a sense of joy when I see a patient become pain-free after suffering previously. Watching my patients making progress from various treatments is rewarding.
What would you like to share about your family and some of your other interests?
Gwen is my wonderful wife and we have two young sons, four-year-old Stellan, and one-year-old Akiva. Teaching my sons and having fun with them are my primary interests outside of the office.
