What’s the history of your popular Yoga for Everybody Class on Englewood Beach?
We started offering free yoga on the beach in March 2008. We started with 9 people on a very windy, stormy day. We had 20 people the following week and over 100 within the first year. Our fifth-year anniversary attracted 404 guests. We accept free will donations for the 8:30am class which is suitable for beginners. We also offer a moderate level Sun Salutation Class 7:45am every day, a Sunset Yoga Class on Wednesday, and a special Sunset Sound Meditation Class once a month. Be sure to check the time for Sunset Yoga on our website since the time changes during the year.
How many people have enjoyed beach yoga since 2008 and how do you communicate with so many guests in the high season?
We estimate over 300,000 people have enjoyed beach yoga since 2008 and that includes regulars and new visitors. We added a portable speaker system in our second year and we’ve added more speakers to reach the larger group in high season. We also have additional instructors when we have more than 100 students.
What are some of the classes available at your indoor studio on 776?
We offer Gentle Beginner Yoga, Yoga for Well Being Level 1 and Level 2, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Aerial Yoga, Yoga/Pilates, Yoga Infused for Strength, Chair Yoga, and Sound Healing Crystal Bowls. We opened our Englewood Yoga Center in January 2010.
What does Sound Healing entail?
Robert uses crystal bowls made of pure crushed quartz to emit a pure resonance which evokes deep relaxation. Robert is an open channel for positive and loving energy.
Where are you both originally from?
We are originally from Santa Barbara, California and we moved to Naples in 1998. We love living in Englewood and we’ve made so many friends the past decade.
What are some of the key benefits of yoga?
Overall well-being, peace of mind, inner strength, flexibility, endurance, focus, concentration, healthier breathing to nourish the body, better sleep, greater balance, and more positive feelings!
What does yoga mean to you Lata?
Yoga is life and a gift to the world. I love teaching and I value the feeling of bliss that comes when my students connect to their higher potential of health and happiness.
