Dr. Nadler, what’s your history in the area?
I was born in Port Charlotte and attended local schools and I graduated from Charlotte High School in Punta Gorda. My weekends and summers were spent mostly at Englewood and Boca Grande beaches. This area is my home.
What degrees have you completed and with what institutions?
I earned my undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing (BSN and MSN) at the University of Florida, and my medical degree (M.D.) at the University of Miami. I recently completed my MBA through a collaborative agreement with the American Association of Physician Leaders and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
How has your prior experience as a nurse and nurse practitioner influenced your work as a physician?
I had a lot of education and patient experiences to rely on prior to medical school that afforded me the opportunity to get the most from my medical education. It also provides me with a more holistic and patient-centered approach to the way I practice medicine and work with patients and staff.
What’s an internist and how is Internal Medicine different from Family Medicine?
An internist is an adult medicine physician. We have more in-depth training with respect to hospital medicine and the various subspecialties. This helps us to better support patients dealing with complex medical conditions and acute illnesses. Our focus on providing health promotion overlaps with the care provided by family physicians.
What would you like to share about your family?
I’ve been married to my wonderful and supportive husband, Kirk, for over 30 years. We have two Maltese fur babies.
What are some of your interests away from work?
We love outdoor activities like boating and fishing and walking on the beach. We have participated in several 5K runs, and my favorite is the Run for the Turtles on Siesta Key Beach in the Spring. We are also avid Gators football fans.
What do you enjoy most about being a physician?
It sounds a bit cliché, but the personal connection I have with my patients and the ability to have a positive influence on their health is very meaningful.
