By Randy Moore, Publisher & Editor – Healthy living continues to be one of my top priorities. My early motivation stemmed from heart-related issues among older family members. Jogging 2-3 miles three times a week for 20 plus years also helped me manage stress.
In 2006, at age 51, I launched my Fitness Points Program. I earn one point for every 10-20 minutes of physical activity. The range of time reflects effort. For example, I can earn three points from either riding my bike 30 minutes, swimming 36 laps, practicing basketball 40 minutes, walking one hour, etc.
I averaged 27 fitness points per month in 2006 and stayed in the mid 20’s until 2013. That’s when I decided to make fitness a higher priority. My goal was to set a new personal best in the monthly average and annual total of fitness points for the next decade. Here’s the results the previous 8 years – 31, 38, 60, 67, 71, 89, 93, and 121 in 2020. My average for 2021 is 135 with one month to go. That’s about 75 minutes a day focused on a variety of physical activities.
Being more fit inspired me to eat healthier and especially the past several years. My main nutrition goals include eating more fresh organic veggies and fruit, and reducing refined sugar, salt and bad fats. I also eat less. I have two primary meals each day. The first one mid-morning is 1.3 liters of a blend of 6-7 veggies, 2-3 fruits, and various boosters like Kombucha, orange juice, and plant-based protein powder. I alternate this meal every other day with low fat yogurt mixed with pecans, walnuts, almonds, wheat germ, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, flaxseeds, and blueberries. I enjoy an egg omelet a couple times a month.
My second main meal mid-afternoon is usually whole wheat pasta or rice mixed with veggies in a low sodium veggie broth with black pepper and Himalayan salt. My early evening snack includes wheat crackers, cheese, carrots, celery, and hummus, along with a grapefruit or blackberries. My treats include a couple small cookies or dark chocolate covered almonds. I still enjoy eating out, and especially vegan dishes, pasta, salmon, sushi, salads, soups, and occasional ice cream.
I take 13 supplements in two batches on alternating days. The first batch includes Vitamin D3 (5,000 IU), Vitamin C (1,000mg), B-Complex, Fish Oil (700mg), Magnesium, and Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM. Batch two includes a probiotic, Curcumin, CoQ10 (100mg), DHEA (50mg), Selenium (200mg), Zinc, and Andrographis EP80. I get my supplements at Reid’s Nutrition Center in Englewood, Florida.
And finally, I enjoy the beauty of nature, noble ideas and inspiring people. Happy holidays everyone and thank you for calling our advertisers for your various needs.
