Randy and Bryan Moore Ride the Waves by Randy Moore – My son Bryan Moore and I enjoyed a memorable boating excursion recently with our friends at Riding The Waves located at Skip’s Placida Marina. We did the sunset cruise and it was a boatload of fun with incredible views and encounters with birds and other wildlife.
Our small armada of catamarans departed the marina with our guide Rachel Wells at 4pm. Our 2.5-hour adventure involved cruising south past the Lemon Bay Aquatic Preserve, Stump Pass, Don Pedro Island State Park, and under the Boca Grande Causeway. After a short stop at a small island, we returned the same way with the added benefit of a beautiful sunset and full moon.
We enjoyed seeing many birds including a flyover by a curious eagle and ospreys and pelicans fishing for dinner. A dolphin appeared close to Boca Grande.
Rachel was terrific with her knowledge about our boats, the marine environment and local wildlife. She was constantly aware of each boat and the changing conditions on the water including boat traffic. This is important for anyone who might assume they need boating experience to enjoy the catamaran. You don’t. Rachel provided the perfect orientation on driving the boat, and her constant attention to safety allowed everyone to relax and have fun.
The boat is easy to operate and agile on the open water. Bryan had the biggest smile on his face riding the waves. It’s a reminder that this unique excursion is a terrific option for visiting family members or friends. They will be very impressed!
