Many locals know Marie Laforge in connection with Mango Bistro, the popular restaurant she owns in Englewood with her partner, Ricardo. Marie is also passionate about photography. Some of her favorite subjects include seashells, water, birds, trees, leaves, seascapes, landscapes, and casual scenes from her trips to Europe and other places.
“I enjoy photographing simple things and noticing the subtleties of light, movement and textures that are constantly changing,” said Marie. “I also appreciate the convenience of using my iPhone and advanced editing tools on my computer.”
Marie prints select photos on high gloss aluminum, which is weatherproof, waterproof, and scratch resistant. “I love how the crystal clear accuracy of the metal gives my images a life-like appearance,” added Marie. “They can be displayed outdoors on lanai walls and even in areas with lots of humidity.”
Marie has lived in Englewood since 1999 after living a few years in Santa Barbara. The native of France grew up with a love of art and music next to the majestic Alps. She attended art school in Paris to study graphic arts and advertising. Her partner Ricardo is from Brazil and her daughter graduated from the University of Miami.
Marie has also developed a line of colorful scarf and beach sarongs printed on silk like materials. She’s also exploring options of displaying some of her photos on fabric.
