Dr. Bolen, what is LED Light Therapy and how does it work?
LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. It’s a computer chip encased in a glass-like resin that emits infrared wavelengths of light or photonic energy. The infrared light is observable as a deep red color. This technology was originally developed to help heal wounds and post-surgery scars. The cells in the dermis layer of our skin converts the energy from the light into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which stimulates cellular activity. The same red light affects adipocytes, which are cells that store fat, causing the lipids to be released naturally. Clinical trials have noted positive effects in reducing fat and cellulite as well as cosmetic body enhancement.
How are patients using this technology to improve their appearance?
LED Light Therapy can be used to target areas on the face, back, arms, chest, abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. Patients have different needs from dropping a few inches or reducing their waistline and girth. We use soft flexible pads to focus the light on the targeted areas. This technology does not replace exercise or good nutrition, but it’s a viable option for many adults.
What about side effects?
The therapy is completely safe and noninvasive with no pain, discomfort, or side effects.
What’s involved with a treatment session and how long does it last?
The initial visit includes body composition analysis and taking various measurements to track progress. The first treatment takes about one hour and follow up treatments are about 40 minutes. Results are immediate and we offer a guarantee that clients will lose two inches on their first visit or there’s no cost for the session. We customize a treatment program based on a client’s goals and needs.
Where are you from originally and what brought you to Venice?
I grew up in southern Illinois. I moved to Venice in 1998 to take over an existing chiropractic office after graduating from Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis.
What would you like to share about your family and other interests?
My wife Judith and I got married in 2014. We attended high school together for one year and reconnected through Facebook. We enjoy boating, traveling, spending time with our families, taking care of our dogs, and social events.
