Linda Pica and her family vacationed in the Naples Ft. Myers area for several years before discovering Venice and buying a home here in 2018. Moving to Venice was an opportunity to resume her love of art full-time after a 27-year hiatus.
Linda began oil painting lessons when she was 12. She was selling her art at area venues and winning awards within four years.
“My father’s hobby was photography, and we spent many meaningful hours hiking wooded trails and around lakes in the search of the perfect photo,” said Linda. “My mother was a florist, and my grandmother was a teacher and watercolorist. All three family members taught me about composition, color, light, and the beauty of nature.”
Linda pursued a career in healthcare, developing expertise in all facets of healthcare management including operations, finance, medical billing, staffing, information systems, and patient care. She earned an MBA in Healthcare Administration at Duquesne University and served on the alumni board of governors. She taught college courses in medical diagnosis and procedure coding, and other health-related topics.
“Art in every form implores us to pause, look, listen, feel, and explore what it means to be human,” noted Linda. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my art with others.”
Linda explains her approach to painting. “I make preliminary sketches and let the concept simmer a bit. I play with the composition and spend time considering how I want to address light and the color options. I also take a lot of photos to help me paint subjects more accurately.”
Linda usually works on five or six paintings at the same time. “Most of my paintings contain hidden messages or a backstory,” added Linda. “It’s another facet of being creative and having fun through art.
